Day 1-30 Paintings in 30 Days

I came across a fellow artists post about joining a challenge for September, to paint 30 paintings in 30 Days, one each day.

I tend to start challenges out strong, falter somewhere in the middle...and rarely finish. During this one I also have to contend with having company for 20 of the 30 days. Eep!

Day 1, I stared at the canvas for a few minutes, that whiteness is frightening, then my husband said 'paint a face'....ok, that I can do.

In the beginning...there was a sketch.

...that turned into a painting.

...that turned into a painting.

One down....29 to go. Will I make it? Will you stick around to see if I do?

Wood Domino Crate with Succulents

I love having greenery but greenery doesn't love me,  I either forget to water them or I over water them. ..enter faux plants.

I dug through my stash of wooden things I've collected from thrift stores & yard sales and found these wooden handmade dominoes, added sides from straps of lumber & a wire handle.  Two small faux succulents fit perfectly in the crate and I don't have to worry about watering them!

Faux Plant Love

Plants just do well in our house, I'd  like to blame it on the house (somehow) but the simple truth is that I either under-water them or over-water them. ..I also tend to like them in places that don't let them get any sunshine. ...apparently that's sort of important. {Hahaha}

But I'm picky about fake plants/flowers & honestly, I've not had great luck with finding realistic plants locally so how stoked was I to find this fern at my local grocery store!?!

There's something about the little addition of green that just makes a vignette more spring-like, even if you haven't changed anything else.

At Home - vintage suitcase & tarnished silver

on a shelf in the livingroom sits an old suitcase & some tarnished silver.

The leather of the suitcase is cracked and frayed and the clasps no longer work but there is much beauty in the wear and tear. I could polish the silver but I find the patina gorgeous.

It's the simple things.

Supplies & Directions

  • plastic pearls with holes large enough for your wire to go through (I found these at the dollar store)
  • white wire (I stole a wire hanger from the closet but pipe cleaner will work too)
  • seam binding in your color choice (you can find seam binding for sale here)
  • thin string or more seam binding to hang your heart from.
  • wire cutters, pliers, scissors to cut the seam binding.

Cut your wire into 12 inch lengths. I managed to get 3 complete hearts out of one hanger. Measure in 6 inches from one end and make a sharp bend in the wire at that center point. Hanger wire can be really tough to bend, if it's too hard for you to work with, pipe cleaners will be easy to work with but pretty 'bendy' afterwards.

String on an equal amount of beads onto both sides of the center bend. Start to curve in the round shape of the heart as you go, I found it easier that way. I used a little washi tape on the side I wasn't work on to keep my beads from sliding off.

Bend small loops into the ends and insert them into each other, squeeze the loops shut. You should be able to manipulate the wire a bit more to shape the heart.

So I could hang the heart from our door knob, I simply tied 12 inches of white cotton crochet thread into a loop, hiding the knot where the wires connect. For the pretty bow, I used 12 inches of seam binding in white and tied a small bow over the wires.
